Who we are

Waggy Paths is operated by Paw Path Technologies Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”). This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use the Waggy Paths app and this website. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Information we collect

What we collect depends on how you use Waggy Paths.

Your account: your email address or mobile phone number, a username, your password, your date of birth, and a profile photo if you add one. If you sign in with Apple, Google or Facebook, we receive the details that service shares with us, such as your name and email address.
Your location: with your permission, your precise location while you’re using the app, so we can show where you are on the map and find places nearby. You can turn this off in your phone’s settings.
Photos: a photo from your library, or one you take with the camera, if you choose to add a profile photo.
What you add to the map: updates and confirmations you post about places, and places you like or save.
Technical information: your device type, operating system and app version, a notification token if you allow notifications, and crash reports and diagnostics when the app has a problem.
On this website: if you use “Check where I am” in the walk check, your browser shares your location so we can show the weather there. We round it to about 1 km, use it only to look up the weather, and don’t keep it. If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.

How we use your information

To create and run your account and keep it secure.
To show you places near you and let you add updates and confirmations.
To send notifications you’ve allowed, and to reply to your messages.
To find and fix problems and to improve the app.
To keep the community safe, enforce our terms and meet our legal obligations.

Third-party services

We use these services to run Waggy Paths. Each handles information under its own privacy policy.

Apple, Google and Facebook (Meta): if you choose to sign in with them.
Google Maps: to show the map in the app. Some of the place details and photos we show also come from Google.
Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google): to send push notifications.
Sentry: to receive crash reports and diagnostics.
Open-Meteo: to provide the weather for the walk check.
Amazon Web Services: to host our systems, in Sydney, Australia.

Some of these providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States.

Cookies

This website doesn’t set cookies for advertising or analytics, and it doesn’t load third-party trackers. Its fonts are served from our own server.

How long we keep your information

We keep your account information while your account is open. If you delete your account, we deactivate it and permanently delete the information connected to it after 30 days. See Delete your account. We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it’s wrong. You can delete your account at any time. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, tell us and we’ll look into it. If we haven’t resolved it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
